October 11, 2013

It’s Pinktober and what’s a better way to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month than sport my favorite pink piece by AJ Designs, the Rhondonite Triple Strand Bracelet!?!

The bracelet entails Rhodonite beads that are rosy pink with black matrix. It is known as the, “Stone of Love!” The balance of colors allows for power and caring for one’s self. Rhodonite allows for confidence and self worth and helps us express confidence and lovingness. Rhodonite also helps us with confusion and allows us to focus.

This month is the month to wear those cool rose rues to the deep fuchsia pinks.  So show your support for Pinktober and visit Etsy for the latest pink styles.  Happy Shopping! 🙂

A Change of Jade| Yellow Jade Bracelet

September 3, 2013

Most people think of jade as a green stone but this bracelet entails yellow jade.  It has a unique look and has many healing properties to it.  I felt it was important to share the benefits of wearing the bracelet because although most people think of fashion when they purchase an item, the therapeutic benefits surpass the superficial reasons.

Jadeite can be found in Japan, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Guatemala, California and Alaska. Although jade is most often considered a green stone, the variety of jade known as jadeite comes in a variety of colors including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, lilac, pink, black, white, and brown. The variety commonly called yellow jade is bright translucent yellow.

Yellow Jade is cheerful and energetic, a stone of assimilation and discrimination.

Jade Uses and Purposes:

Jade is the stone of calm in the midst of storm. Its action balances nerves and soothes cardiac rhythm. A piece of Jade recharges energy, and traditionally guards against illness. Jade may also be used to temper the shock or fear of the very young or very old being cared for in the hospital or away from home and family. [Megemont, 99][Eason, 266]

Jade is excellent for healing feelings of guilt, and for extreme cases of defeatism. It also treats “pathological normality,” an excessive desire to adapt oneself to a group, even if it is sect-like, exaggerated militarism, a follow-the-leader attitude, or the compulsive desire to give in to general opinion to belong no matter the cost. [Megemont, 99]

As a professional support stone, Jade aids doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and all healers in making practical diagnosis and in their applications. It is a support stone for educators, and Jade, carved in the form of a faith symbol, is uplifting to military personnel. [Mella, 130-133]

Jade pendants and necklaces protect against deception and authoritative abuse for financial or sexual gain. Jade signifies peace through strength, and is also helpful in homes or occupations that encounter bullying or intimidation from violent children or teens.

Jade Physical Healing Energy:

Jade is a powerful cleansing stone, enhancing the body’s filtration and elimination organs. It is excellent for treating the kidneys, spleen and supra-adrenal glands, removing toxins and balancing the fluids and water-salt/acid-alkaline ratios in the body. [Hall, 152][Gienger, 50]

It is helpful to the bones and joints, especially the hips, and for treating bacterial and viral infections, cystitis and genito-urinary infections, and bedwetting. [Eason, 266]

Jade has a restorative property, allowing for both the cellular and skeletal systems to re-bind themselves, and assists in the removal of pain associated with the body’s healing of itself. Jade also helps stitches to bind and heal properly, and has been used to diminish cramps and “Charlie horses.” [Hall, 152][Melody, 343] Imperial Jade is particularly useful in healing after plastic surgery or reconstructive surgery caused by a disfiguring illness or injury. [Eason, 265]

Jade is thought to treat reproductive disorders, especially male, and assist during childbirth. [Hall, 152][Melody, 343] Jade may also be used to help teenage girls with anorexia, and for mothers who are afraid of not knowing how to parent their children. [Megemont, 98-99]

Jade Emotional Healing Energy:

Jade is a “dream stone,” releasing negative thoughts and irritability and soothing the mind. It stabilizes the personality, integrating mind with body, to stimulate ideas and make tasks less complex and easier to act upon. Placed on the forehead, it brings insightful dreams. [Hall, 152] Jade improves one’s remembering of dreams and releases suppressed emotions via the dream process. [Melody, 341]

Jade relinquishes self-imposed limitations and assists in cherishing one’s ideals and desires, facilitating the ambition and building of those thoughts into physical reality. Jade provides confidence and self-assuredness, self-reliance and self-sufficiency. [Melody, 341-342]

Imperial Jade improves dysfunctional relationships. It helps restore dignity to anyone who has been mocked for looking different, and gives very overweight people stuck in self-loathing the courage to seek help and persevere with treatment. [Eason, 265]

Buzzfeed Shout Out: Pregnant Belly Artwork

July 10, 2013

A few years ago, I painted the beautiful Katie’s baby bump.  At the time, I was the only one who knew their daughter would be named Lilly Skye.  I incorporated that in the artwork by creating the sky surrounded by lilies and added extra lilies on her hands for added details.  It was so hard to keep the secret when I was able to share the photos from the shoot.  Once the healthy baby girl was born, I was so excited to tell the wonderful story behind the theme of the painting.

Her husband, today, brought to my attention that the artwork was recognized by Buzzfeed.  What a compliment!  I have no idea how they found me, but I feel great about it.  I was ranked #3.  I have been glowing since I saw this.  I guess I will be checking out Buzzfeed more often.

Thumbs Up: A Story of One’s Determination

April 21, 2013

Two months ago, I broke my thumb pretty bad.  My hand therapist said it will take about a year until it looks and functions properly.  I have been working on daily exercises and am determined to have to work again.  I am grateful that I still have my thumb (even if I can’t use it right now).  It’s amazing what you can do with determination.  I have been using my middle finger and pointer as if those were my thumb and pointer.  For those who are wondering, it is my left thumb that is broken and I am a righty.  However, you use your hands a lot such as buttoning jeans, eating (cutting food), etc…

The other night I was asked, “How are you making jewelry with a broken thumb?” My response, “Very carefully.”

I love what I do and I take pride in my craftsmanship.  It may take me a little longer now (let’s be honest, sometimes a lot longer).  I am grateful for the inventory I have in stock during this time.  And I am determined not to have barriers get in my way… and they don’t!

“You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” Ralph Marston

thumbs-up

I chose this picture because every time someone has asked how I’m doing or how my thumb is, it has become a signature motion of a “thumbs up.”

Children’s Jewelry: Happy Birthday Emma!

April 13, 2013

I want to wish the beautiful Emma a very Happy Birthday!  Emma has been a fan of AJ Designs since she was 2.5 years old.  At the age of 2, and with amazing fine motor skills, Emma made her first bracelet with AJD and it was a great bonding experience for her and her mommy to make matching bracelets.  Ever since, Emma has brought up the topic of jewelry to owner, Amanda Levison.  Emma has always been into jewelry and always been as girly as can be.
