Thumbs Up: A Story of One’s Determination

April 21, 2013

Two months ago, I broke my thumb pretty bad.  My hand therapist said it will take about a year until it looks and functions properly.  I have been working on daily exercises and am determined to have to work again.  I am grateful that I still have my thumb (even if I can’t use it right now).  It’s amazing what you can do with determination.  I have been using my middle finger and pointer as if those were my thumb and pointer.  For those who are wondering, it is my left thumb that is broken and I am a righty.  However, you use your hands a lot such as buttoning jeans, eating (cutting food), etc…

The other night I was asked, “How are you making jewelry with a broken thumb?” My response, “Very carefully.”

I love what I do and I take pride in my craftsmanship.  It may take me a little longer now (let’s be honest, sometimes a lot longer).  I am grateful for the inventory I have in stock during this time.  And I am determined not to have barriers get in my way… and they don’t!

“You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” Ralph Marston

I chose this picture because every time someone has asked how I’m doing or how my thumb is, it has become a signature motion of a “thumbs up.”

Children’s Jewelry: Happy Birthday Emma!

April 13, 2013

I want to wish the beautiful Emma a very Happy Birthday!  Emma has been a fan of AJ Designs since she was 2.5 years old.  At the age of 2, and with amazing fine motor skills, Emma made her first bracelet with AJD and it was a great bonding experience for her and her mommy to make matching bracelets.  Ever since, Emma has brought up the topic of jewelry to owner, Amanda Levison.  Emma has always been into jewelry and always been as girly as can be.

Ladies of Zion & AJ Designs

February 1, 2013

Who said arts and crafts were for kids!?!  AJ Designs provided bracelet making at the Annual DJCC Women’s Fundraiser Luncheon: The Ladies of Zion.  The bracelet making allowed for the women to relax, and let their creativity flow.  One woman said, “I have been so stressed, it feels so good to sit and just play with all of the colors.”  I came out, provided hundreds of beads to chose from, options on clasps, and even had religious dangle charms available.  It was great to see the women afterward, wearing their beautiful bracelets.  Contact me if you are looking to add that something extra to your party.

Looks to Wear: Snappy Casual

January 13, 2013

I have to admit that sometimes it is difficult to create outfits rather than just going into my personal closet and putting it together.  Polyvore is an awesome site but can be quite overwhelming.  My close friend assisted me with this ensemble.  We had fun creating this outfit that you can wear to work or out on a nice date.  This gives a causal but classy look.  Jewelry by AJ Designs.

Happy Birthday Mom

January 4, 2013

I want to wish my amazing mom a very happy birthday!  I am so grateful to have her as my number one fan and supporter.  I created this necklace in honor of my mom and thought it was appropriate to share it with everyone.  This necklace consists of pink pearls, sterling silver, and Swarovski crystal accents, enclosed with a marcasite toggle.  Just like the pink pearls being a rare find, so is my mom.  She is a unique blend of quirky, fun, outgoing, friendly, and so much more.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!
