HELP: Etsy Verse Website

July 22, 2010

I need advice.  It’s not often that I shout it out so openly.  It seems like less than 2 years ago, I redid my website.  I was so happy with it, got tons of compliments with it, and most of all- felt proud to show it off.  Apparently, it was not created SEO friendly.  I would love to increase sales individually and in stores.  As we all know, internet is the way of life.

I’m stuck thinking, should I pay to redo my site again?  It costs so much to do.  Will it pay off?  Unfortunately, it’s a gamble.  There are no guarantees.

My other option would be to focus on ETSY and less on my website and see how that works.  Many artists speak highly as far as sales go.  The problem is, you need to really work it.

So now I’m turning to you…  my audience, my fans, and my friends.  I need advice. Do you think I should focus on etsy or redo my site?  Rather than just an answer, please tell me why and help me decide.  Thank you and I look forward to announcing the outcome!

I would love to see you run with your website more. You are right about the SEO factor. Find the keywords you want to use and bank on those everywhere you drop your name and product online. You design and your photos are perfect to me, i think its a matter of getting into google enough to be noticed in search engines.
Etsy can be great for sales but can be take a while to be noticed.

Hmmm. Why do you need to do another redesign to help with SEO? As a less expensive strategy, you could hire a contract SEO specialist to do some more intensive keyword optimization, re-evaluate and update the linking structure, and get some more linkbacks from other highly visibly sites. I think that’s all you need. The design of your site is great. I wouldn’t change it.

Etsy is cool, but I wonder about how hard it is to stand out from the rest on the site. Searching for jewelry on there is tough because there’s so much to choose from – I imagine some sellers feel like a needle in a haystack.

I say stick with your site and work on optimizing it more.

It’s hard to stand out on Etsy, like Ashley said. I’d focus on your site and find someone to do SEO for you. I may know someone I can put you in touch with. I’ll check my contacts. 🙂
