Marketing

March 28, 2010

I cannot begin to say how hard it is to market jewelry.  I use twitter, facebook, have a website and blog however it’s not easy.  Today I was told that rather than cheesy stories about jewelry just simply say, “BUY THIS.”  It’s not that simple. It’s hard to talk about my day-to-day life without being focused on my jewelry… because that’s what I sell. I hand make each piece of jewelry and hope to sell. So let us do a little experiment.

Everyone who reads this has a certain niche, a specific and unique way to reach out to each individual. I create an affordable but eloquent line of jewelry…what could I do to get you in it?? Tell me what it would take to reach you as a consumer, whether you ever intend to buy from me or not.

My advice to you is post a different photo with EVERY blog post. Images suck people in and grab their attention much more quickly and strongly than text.

    Not that you asked 😉

No no, don’t under any circumstance just say “BUY THIS!” Bad idea. =)

In fact, I’ve been meaning to mention to you that I really like how you’ve started to incorporate stories in your product descriptions. Namely, I noticed the story about how you came up with the idea for the jet black cuff. I love that and I don’t think it’s cheesy at all. I think that more people are apt to make a purchase when you have a personal story attached to the item…at least for me as a consumer. Keep doing that!

I would also love to hear more about your love of making jewelry. I think doing a series of blogs on how/why you came up with certain pieces (maybe some of your favorites?) would be interesting. It takes a long time to build brand awareness and an established customer base, but I think one of the best ways to do that is to relate personally to your potential customer.

I would also say attend every arts and crafts festival you can to show off your jewelry and make sure to pass out business cards with your website on them. That’s where I tend to make most of my handmade jewelry purchases because I love that feeling of finding something unique and getting to talk to the artist who made it in person. Usually, if I make a purchase, I make a note to find out if they sell online, so I can shop their pieces from time to time.

    Hope I helped! =)
